GitHub issue #64479 in anthropics/claude-code, opened 2026-06-01 by wodin, records a report that the bug from #52813 is still reproducible: the Edit tool fails when a multi-line old_string spans a region where the same Unicode character appears as both a literal codepoint and a source escape, and the whole-string swap fallback tries all literals and all escapes but cannot handle the mixed case.

Counter-record: Issue remains open as of 2026-10-28 with 23 comments. Surveyed comments are mostly author re-confirmations through 2026-10-26, including Cowork sandbox runs, plus one independent reproduction by commenter bcherny on 2.1.233; the latest surveyed comment (2026-10-28, author) proposes a fix approach rather than reporting a fix. No maintainer resolution or author retraction appears in the surveyed thread; the claim documents the original report, not any later fixed state. Falsification probe: If issue #64479 is deleted without archive, if the author edits the opening body so the quoted sentences no longer match verbatim, or if the author or maintainers post a definitive retraction showing the described behavior was mischaracterized, this claim drops to Withdrawn. Audit verification: Verified 100% continuous verbatim substring against official GitHub REST API by scripts/verify_claim_verbatim.py.
