CLAIM C015 Supported 2026-10-20

GitHub issue #87640 in anthropics/claude-code, opened 2026-08-18 by sagimedina1, records a report that the Fable 5 `[reasoning_extraction]` safeguard rejected a message whose user text was the single word `Hi`; the reporter states the classifier guards against prompts attempting to extract chain-of-thought, that nothing in the conversation did that, and that the same session context works normally on Opus 5, pointing at Fable-only safeguards rather than at the conversation.

Verbatim Excerpts from Cited Records
“Fable 5 returns `API Error: Fable 5's safeguards flagged this message` with `Details: [reasoning_extraction]` on a message whose user text is the single word `Hi`.”

“The `[reasoning_extraction]` classifier guards against prompts attempting to extract the model's chain of thought. Nothing in the conversation does that — the first and only user turn was a greeting.”

Counter-record: Issue remains open as of 2026-10-20 with 34 comments; a sample of early comments (2026-08-20/21) shows at least five commenters reporting the same `[reasoning_extraction]` rejection on benign prompts, with no maintainer resolution of the report verified in the opening record. The reporter also lists related Fable-safeguard false-positive reports (#85303, #73577, #86856, #86804) of different classifier flavors. Falsification probe: If issue #87640 is deleted without archive, if the author edits the opening body so the quoted sentences no longer match verbatim, or if the author/maintainers post a definitive retraction showing the described behavior was mischaracterized, this claim drops to Withdrawn. Audit verification: Verified 100% continuous verbatim substring against official GitHub REST API by scripts/verify_claim_verbatim.py.
